About

Formed in 2007, The Outer Element has steadily built a reputation as an energetic and charismatic rock band. The band draws on a sound that falls somewhere between Incubus and The Doors, while maintaining a uniqueness characterized by their high energy performances. Gigging primarily in the Mid-Michigan area, the band is beginning to expand its roots and take to the national scene.

In their brief 2 year career the band has focused primarily on writing original material – amassing 19 original tracks to date. In the Spring of 2010 the band finalized a 10 track demo CD, titled “The Legend of Snakemunk.” The title track to the record is symbolic of the bands approach to music, and deserves some preface: The snakemunk is a fictional character dreamed up by bassist David Girdwood and guitarist Ryan McPhee.

The lyrics of the song embody a tribute to this comedic creature – “You know there are no plans, as scary as it is true”. The lyric puts emphasis on the fact that you need to enjoy music for what it is, and that sometimes it’s nothing more than a farce or misshaped drunken formed creature. What counts is that it’s something you can laugh at and enjoy.
